Botanische naam : | Fraxinus Americana |
Gewicht: | 700 kg/m3 |
Groeigebied : | North America |
The stated weight (kg / m3) is measured with a moisture percentage of approx. 12%. Compared to other species, American Ash grows relatively easily and quickly. Its heartwood varies form light to medium brown. Its sapwood tends to be beige or light brown and is not always clearly distinguishable from its heartwood. Usually its sapwood (white ash) is used for the wood trade industry.
This ring-porous wood is perishable and non-resistant to insect attacks. Only in regard to decay it is slightly durable. Working with American White Ash produces generally good results despite of its natural elasticity, hardness and density.
Its heartwood is often used for decorative purposes. Because of many color differences in this medium brown heartwood, a beautifully expressed wood figure could occur. This wood is also called 'Brown Ash' or 'Olive Ash' in the wood trade industry.
