Botanical name: Millettia Laurentii
Weight: 850 kg/m3
Origin: Zaire (Africa)

The stated weight (kg / m3) is measured with a moisture percentage of approx.12%. Its heartwood tends to be medium brown, often with a reddish or yellowish hue. In contrast, its demarcated sapwood is nearly white in color. Characteristic of Wengé is the beautiful wood figures consisting of nearly black streaks which become lighter due to sunlight.

Wenge is very durable in regard to decay and insect attacks. Moreover, due to its excellent strenght and hardness properties it could be difficult to work with.

Interesting facts:

* Wengé used for outdoor applications must be treated at first, because its inner substances dissolve in water which results in wood stains.

* Wenge is dark enough to be used as a substitue for ebony.

* Upon application of a wood finish the wood can become nearly black.
